Annual Elections:

It’s that time of the year again: Elections. No, not the National Election in November, every four years; the chapter officer elections. The management of our chapter is very important. We need good officers so that the chapter flourishes. If you would like to know the responsibilities of these officers, please check on page 5 of the Great Outdoors By Laws.

There are three officers that are elected to chapter government: President, Vice-President of Outings and Treasurer. The elections will be held at the General Membership meeting on September 25, 2018. Palm Springs is a large and growing chapter and I hope we will continue to elect great officers.

Any member who might be interested in serving as one of these 3 officers next year should feel free to offer their name in nomination, or if they prefer, to ask a fellow member to place their name in nomination. All members are encouraged to place other member name(s) in nomination. If you are interested in any of these elected positions, or would like to nominate someone for one of them, please send an email to

Speaker Program:

Sky Islands And Climate Refugia - Refuge from the Heat in the Mountains of Southern California

Colin Barrows, Conservation Coordinator at the Friends of the Desert Mountains, Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.

The mountains of Southern California rise above the surrounding desert like islands in the ocean. Many unique species found nowhere else on Earth have evolved and flourished on these “sky islands"; but how will these isolated plants and animals adapt to a rapidly changing climate? Some of the unique species of the San Jacinto Mountains are found nowhere else on Earth!

All members and non-members are welcome to attend all meetings. Members get an advance opportunity to register for this meeting and to listen to our guest speaker. We are asking that you register (free) for this event so we can set the room up for the size attending. If the registration limit is reached, a waiting list will be formed automatically.

Club members will be given first priority for attendance. Non-Members may only register two weeks in advance of the meeting date. Non-Members may join our Chapter immediately by clicking here.
