This docent led hike will be hands-on and interactive, observing geologic formations that represent a vast expanse of geologic history from about 1.7 Billion years ago to the present. Led and by Joe Migliore. Geologist from all over the world come here to study the exposed results of tectonics forces. Hikers enjoy this enchanted high walled canyon with ladders to access different levels and marvel at the variety of colors in the painted canyon.
Description: We drive to Painted Canyon Road with stops at Points of Interest along the way as we enter the canyon along the dirt/gravel road and hike up from the parking lot.

Migliore has a BA in Zoology from UCLA and is a Certified Interpretive Guide by the National Association for Interpretation with the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, Friends of The Desert Mountains, Docent, and geology instructor at The Living Desert.
Beginning over 200 million years ago colossal tectonic forces, subduction, volcanism and earthquakes initiated the current era of transformation of the American West into the diverse landscapes and environments exemplified in the dramatic scenery around us in Southeast California, juxtaposed between the snow capped mountains to the west and the vast interior deserts stretching east to the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountains.
