The Story of The Transformation of the American West Over The Last 200 Million Years

This presentation takes us across the millennia demonstrating with colorful illustrations and animations the inexorable processes of geologic creation and change.

The western margin of North America slumbered under shallow seas for hundreds of millions of years before the dinosaurs were roaming the tropical forests and swamps of what is now the Rocky Mountain West. Beginning over 200 million years ago colossal tectonic forces, subduction, volcanism and earthquakes initiated the current era of transformation of the American West into the diverse landscapes and environments exemplified in the dramatic scenery around us in Southeast California , juxtaposed between the snow capped mountains to the west and the vast interior deserts stretching east to the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountains.

All members and non-members are welcome to attend all meetings.

The Center is located at 1301 North Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA. It is on the same side of Palm Canyon as Denny's restaurant, on the up canyon side Meeting room is on the Third Floor.
